- "I have been visiting Corfu on a regular basis since 1978 and last year my wife and I decided that it was time to purchase our own property there. We were uncertain as to what location to choose , whether it should be on the sea or further up in the hills, but knew that we would make this a family home with a view to spending a good proportion of the year there. Having taken advice we were recommended to go through Emma and James Wood of The Corfu Property Shop, who represent Savills on Corfu.
We explained our different ideas that we wished to consider and described to Emma a variety of options that we would like to view over a two day period in September, 2009. James and Emma then spent two days with us showing us six varying properties or plots to consider. They understood exactly what we had requested and showed us land by the sea, land up in the hills, houses that needed modernisation, houses that were developed etc. Nothing was too much trouble and they clearly had vision as to what we could hope to achieve under local rules and regulations. They were also very knowledgeable as to the planning rules and development and building regulations, the requirements that we had to fulfil vis a vis tax authorities, a Greek bank account and a local lawyer and an engineer for our project. They also have a wide circle of friends, all willing to assist if possible.
When we decided to proceed Emma and James coordinated what could have been a very tiresome process into a short negotiation and agreement among twelve parties, which was no mean feat. The after sales service has been extremely helpful to us and we genuinely feel that we have a highly trustworthy ally on the island keeping us informed as to how things are proceeding, the local political situation and general advice in how to conduct our business in Corfu professionally and in a proper fashion.
